Dive Deeper | Olaplex Review

BD Olaplex

Hi Babes! So this is a post we’ve been meaning to write for awhile, as we get LOTS of questions on our favorite hair care. We’re here to tell you WHY we love the entire Olaplex System, after months of using the main products. I (Lauren) first got into Olaplex after learning about the No.3 Hair Perfector from my colorist, many years ago. They actually use No.1 and No.2 as professional in-salon treatments, after coloring, which makes your hair silky smooth. So after buying No.3 and realizing how it unequivocally strengthened my somewhat damaged hair, I became obsessed.

Fast forward, years later, to Olaplex launching a full line of No.4 Shampoo, No.5 Conditioner, No.6 Leave-in Styling Cream, and No.7  Oil, I was SO excited to give the full system a shot. 3 months later, here we are and I can say, this is some of the best haircare on the market. Let me note, that I like changing up products, and I use a lot of them. So in addition to these Olaplex products, I regularly use the Kerastase Resistance Masque, Bumble + bumble hair spray, dry shampoo, HIO UV Protective Primer, Glow Blow Dry Accelerator. Love the Oribe Maximista Volumizing Spray, Texturizing Spray, and Imperméable Anti-Humidity Spray. Also love Batiste Dry Shampoo, and Elnett Hairspray. And I’m super pumped to try my new Sephora picks- Living Proof Body Builder and Volume Blast, and IGK Texture Spray. But I digress….

Why Olaplex?

So let’s get back to Olaplex. First, a little behind the brand. Olaplex is a multi-step process to repair hair and prevent damage. Olaplex was created top PhD’s in chemistry and materials science. All products use a first to market, patented, bond-building technology, which works on a molecular level to relink the broken bonds caused by chemical (color/keratin), thermal (heat), and mechanical (hair ties, tangles, etc.) damage to the hair. The formula was created to work with all hair types, promising to provide “real, structural repair that works from within”. AND, all products are free of parabens, sulfates, and phthalates that harm your hair. Certified Clean at Sephora.

Here’s our review on each of the products. And if you have questions on the below, or any of the products mentioned above, let us know!

Olaplex Review

Olaplex Hair Perfector No. 3 ($28)

What is it? An at home treatment that strengthens the hair from the inside out, reducing breakage and improving overall look and texture.

Why we love it? This is THE BEST for anyone with damaged hair (whether from color, heat, extensions, hair ties, etc). It protects hair by strenthening it, ultimately delivering that fresh, healthy, bouncy, and shiny, appearance and texture. This works, and is a must buy on our list.

How to use it? We use this every time we wash our hair, which to note, is 1-2x max per week. The directions state “once a week or two to three times a week for damaged hair”. We wet our hair (without shampooing or conditioning) and towel dry, then apply a decent amount of the treatment from scalp to ends. We leave this on anywhere from 2-6 hours, though some people sleep in it overnight (you just want to be careful not to leave in TOO long, as it’s said to make hair “gummy” if left on for an extended period of time). When you’re ready, rinse, and shampoo/condition as usual

Olaplex No. 4 Bond Maintenance Shampoo ($28)

What is it? A super moisturizing shampoo that repairs hair, leaving it easy to style, healthy, and boosting shine with every use.

Why we love it? It works against frizz, reduces breakage, and mends split ends by relinking broken bonds. And It’s safe for color treated hair.

How to use it? Shampoo as usual, after using No.3!

Olaplex No.5 Bond Maintenance Conditioner ($28)

What is it? Same as the shampoo, this is a highly moisturizing conditioner that repairs and protects hair.

Why we love it? This thick, creamy conditioner protects against damage, split ends, and frizz by relinking bonds leaving hair strong and silky smooth. Also, safe for color treated hair.

How to use it? Condition as usual, after using No.3 and No.4!

Olaplex No. 6 Bond Smoother Reparative Styling Creme ($28)

What is it? This is a concentrated leave-in styling cream focused on repairing hair damage, hydrating strands, eliminating frizz, and protecting hair for styling.

Why we love it? This new launch from Olaplex is perfect for all hair types, especially colored/chemically treated hair. Outside of the benefits above (which are said to last for 72 hours), it speeds up blow dry times and it’s light enough to not weigh hair down.

How to use it? After using No. 3, No.4, and No.5, use a small amount of No.6 on wet or dry hair. Again, it lasts for 72 hours, so you shouldn’t need it daily (unless, God Bless you, you wash your hair everyday).

Olaplex No. 7 Bonding Oil ($28)

What is it? A first to market, highly concentrated, super lightweight styling oil created with grape seed and green tea oil to repair and protect hair.

Why we love it? Another new launch from Olaplex! We’ve used this for a few months and LOVE. A little goes a long way and it LASTS. It works to increase shine, softness, color vibrancy, and overall managability of hair. It tames flyaways and best of all, it’s a heat protectant protecting hair up to 450°.

How to use it? Use at the end of your Olaplex line up. Apply a small amount to damp or dry hair (we love using on both) and style. You can also add a few drops to No.6 for added protection and shine!
