Hi Beauties, As we transition seasons, today seems like the perfect time to share some of the current products that make up one of our favorite nighttime skincare routines: Clinique’s Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm, Skin Laundry’s Balancing Antioxidant Toner, and Summer Fridays Overtime Mask. These three gems specifically address a few of our current concerns. Who’s with us?!
- Gentle Makeup Remover: As the season’s change and the air becomes dryer, we were on the hunt for a makeup remover that didn’t strip our skin of its natural oils (many makeup wipes are stripping your skin of these “good-for-skin” oils, leading to dehydration. YIKES.). While we love the convenience of a quick makeup wipe (esp for those late nights when something seems better than nothing), when we took a deeper dive finding that most strip our skin of moisture, we were on the hunt for a more gentle makeup remover.
- Alcohol-Free Toner: Who else knows about that familiar stinging sensation from your typical toner?! We needed a toner that is alcohol-free. Time to save our skin from that feeling of fire!
- Gentle Exfoliating Scrub: Again, that change in weather really prompts you to slough off the dead skin and uncover your radiance. We needed a scrub that did not tear the skin or feel rough when applying.
We’ve been using these products for 30 days now and we LOVE. This trio is gentle enough for our sensitive skin, hydrating, and gives us a radiant glow. Let’s break them down, in the order in which we use them of course!
Clinique’s Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm AKA the answer to our makeup remover prayers. This lightweight and non-greasy balm turns to an oily milky texture as it melts away any makeup (and sunscreen). TBH, at the first sound of “Balm,” we were slightly hesitant to rub liberally all over our faces. BUT this surprisingly light formula not only left our skin thoroughly cleansed of ANY makeup, but it also rinsed off quickly and easily leaving our skin with a hydrated dewy glow. If your skin is on the dryer side like ours, (especially as the seasons change) we highly recommend adding this product to your skincare routine for your everyday makeup remover.
BD Pro Tip: After applying the balm to dry skin, using fingertips to massage into skin, rinse well with warm water. ALWAYS follow-up with a cleanser. Sure, makeup removers are technically cleansing agents that break down bacteria, oil, and makeup, but using a cleanser is an absolute necessity to flush it all out of the pores. SO important for a deep (double) cleanse. Anyone else with us here on the double cleansing? Check out one of our favorite articles with great detail on double cleansing from The DermStore Blog!)
We’ve been using Skin Laundry’s Balancing Antioxidant Toner for months, and our skin has never felt better. First, may we start by saying that incorporating a toner into our skincare regiments has become SUPER important. Like many, it wasn’t until much later in life that we started using a toner on a daily basis (or even different toners throughout the week for different needs). Rather than being an extra step that we “don’t have time for,” we now look forward to the rewarding swipe of toner. The resulting clean feeling we get after cleansing still amazes us (who knew how much makeup was left on our toner-filled organic cotton round, after double cleansing?!). If using a toner isn’t yet in your skincare routine, try it and trust us- you’ll never go back.
We digress….. All of this to say, we have tried our fair share of toners in an attempt to find the perfect daily toner for our sensitive skin that didn’t result in that burning or dry feeling. After our laser light facials at Skin Laundry, we were finally convinced the culprit of the burning sensation was likely the alcohol in our toners. We gave the Skin Laundry Balancing Antioxidant Toner a shot and left totally free of irritation, and with a product, we couldn’t leave without. The unique blend of Willow Bark extract calms and soothes as the Aloe Vera leaf juice hydrates, detoxifies, and brings skin’s pH back into balance. Enriched with Panthenol, a beautiful ingredient that attracts moisture from the air and draws it into the skin, this toner, in particular, helps your skin to stay hydrated. Want to feel refreshed and truly cleansed, trust us and add to cart.
The boss babes, Marianna Hewitt, and Lauren Gores, behind the Summer Fridays brand, have done it again, recently launching a second product, their Summer Fridays Overtime Mask. Naturally, after being huge fans of their first launch, the JetLag Mask, we headed to Sephora to pick up their newest gem. For a bit of context, we absolutely love how hydrating and gentle their JetLag Mask is. While we both tend to lean toward enzyme-based masks for a more chemical form of exfoliation, we were eager to try their new exfoliating mask made with apricot seed powder. Before, you turn away from the idea of an Apricot scrub (and contrary to the time when Saint Ives Apricot Scrub was rumored to be creating micro-tears in the skin, #TBT #NoBueno) this formula uses mild exfoliants that promise not to damage your skin’s surface.
The blend of vitamin-packed pumpkin, exfoliating apricot seed powder, and soothing oat kernel proteins help to polish, protect, and brighten dull congested skin. SN: The smell of the mask alone is enough for us to want to use it EVERY DAY, it’s like your PSL in a face exfoliant.
BD Pro Tip: Massage into skin for 1 minute, let it sit for 10, rinse off and follow-up with the intensely-hydrating JetLag Mask for a double dose of the most perfectly rejuvenated skin! Seriously one of our favorite combos in our skincare regiment!
